We're heading into the third week of school closures around the country.

Parents across Ireland have been grappling with homeschooling, trying to find the right balance of routine and actually delivering at least some of what they would be learning if they were in school right now.

People have been bombarded with lots of different advice on how to school children when at home and it can feel a little overwhelming at times.

Child psychologist Catherine Hallissey joined Dermot & Dave to chat about her approach which includes doing no school work during this time, and instead replacing it with play.

Catherine's advice includes, "So many people have been in touch to say they are stressed out trying to force their primary age kids to do school work. My advice is to let all of that go for now. My gang are not doing any school work at the moment. My priority is the emotional and physical wellbeing of everyone in the family so we are focusing on togetherness, gratitude, free play, reading, outside time, exercise and family movies. Know that this crisis will pass eventually and just do whatever works for your family."
