The power of social media! When Geraldine Monaghan put up a Facebook status looking for some pals to help her send Christmas presents to nursing home residents in her local area, she never could have imagined that it would result in people around the world getting involved, and 10,000 people in 29 counties getting special Christmas gifts.

After being inundated with requests to help out after her original plea, Geraldine set up carepack.ie which matches generous people with nursing homes in pretty much every county in Ireland. All you have to do is log on, request a name and you'll be sent all the info directly. Plus, thanks to An Post, sending letters and packages up to 2kg is free until January 31st, so you don't even need to worry about postage!

Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Geraldine revealed the incredible response they've had from the nursing homes involved and the difference this small act has made to the lives of thousands.
