According to a recent survey by AIB, January is the most popular time of the year for people to change jobs.
That's more than likely attributed to the whole 'new year, new you' ethos, but regardless of what month you want to jump ship, your CV is one of the most important factors in making that happen.
We've all been there - loads of pages in front of us and the struggle to try and whittle it down to what you feel an employer would want to read. So where does one start?
Speaking on Dermot and Dave, careers coach Lorraine Murphy started with this piece of advice when it comes to the perfect CV, "The big thing to remember is this is the first impression - so it's really important that you write is with that in mind".
She continues by saying, "You want to get it from just being a one dimensional page into something that can really show who you are and your character".
Too often employers are met with a curriculum vitae that is all about 'me' and this is the biggest mistake people make in Lorraine's eyes, "It's not about you at the end of the day, it's about the company that's going to employ you and it's about the job you are going to do".
You need to focus on the keywords in the job description, ensuring what you say is relevant. This is achievable by doing your homework on the company, "80% of getting it right is in the research. Really getting into their (company) mindset".
A CV should also be concise, use powerful language and have a consistent layout.
