You may remember a couple of months back, Dermot and Dave chatted to Cork comic book artist Will Sliney. 

Well with the sad news of Stan Lee's death coming overnight, the lads gave Will a call to find out why Stan was such an icon.

Talking about Marvel Comics' former editor-in-chief, Sliney says, "he had a way of making the people behind the comic books familiar to ya, which is how I kinda started to realise 'Oh, there's actually people that draw these things?'". Leading the Cork man to a very rewarding career today. 

Then there was the reasons Spider-man became so popular, with the artist pinning it on how "relatable" he is. 

He also tells a fun story about a time he and one of his colleagues snuck into a Hollywood party, but were intimidated on seeing Stan was there, "we tried to like inch closer to him every couple of minutes but we couldn't build up the courage to say hello". A decision he has always regretted. Even more so now. 

Stan's cameo appearances in Marvel movies were another reason people loved him. It was a novelty to see him taking part in the franchise. 

As Will was only yesterday drawing Spider-man yesterday, he feels, "these are kinda like the first steps of these Marvel characters without him being alive". But the Corkonian has great faith in Marvel's future.

R.I.P Stan Lee. A real-life superhero for sure.
