It doesn't seem that long ago that Germany thumped Brazil 7-1 on their way to lifting the prestigious trophy back in 2014 (well it has only been 1432 days), and in 48hrs time, the battle starts all over again.
Sporting his Ireland jersey, Today FM's Head of Sport (and offtheball.com guru) John Duggan touched down in Moscow yesterday morning for a six week stint at the biggest stage in world football.
Over the next month and a half or so, JD (it's what the cool people call him) will be reporting back to Dermot and Dave with his match reviews, a look ahead to all the upcoming fixtures, and keep us up-to-date with the craic and atmosphere throughout.
The lads gave him a shout this morning, where he chatted about Russian 'chawklit', how "there's always surprises at the World Cup", the cities incredible technology and why he's feeling nice and safe amidst all the 'Ultra' fears.

He's also cataloging his adventure...
I am going to chronicle my thoughts, observations and experiences every day in Russia for â¦the @offtheballâ© website. Here is day one... https://t.co/rQEvwOz3sa
