As the six-week religious season of abstinence approaches us, who better to get that proverbial ball rolling than God's representative on earth, Pope Francis.

A major global campaign, which is being backed by a number of high-profile celebrities, is calling for the Pope to go vegan for Lent "to help fight climate change with diet change".

If he accepts the challenge and successfully adheres to the plant-based diet over the forty days or so, Million Dollar Vegan will donate $1 million of their money to a charity of his choice.

The aim is to highlight and reduce the impact of animal culture which results in global warming and fuel emissions.
