I'll never forget the first time I heard Walking On Cars' debut single 'Catch Me If You Can' back in 2012, thinking "there's something very special here". That coupled with the ">beautifully poignant video accompanying the song gave me a real sense of awe as to what they were about.
Fast forward to now, seven years later, and the Dingle natives are Ireland's biggest Independent band with a string of hits and lots of success in the iTunes chart under their belts. Not to mention sold out gigs across the globe.
Their debut album 'Everything This Way' (2106) made it to No.1 in the Irish charts and the kingdom's finest are hoping for a repeat success with their new record 'Colours', which is out on April 12th this year (available to pre-order now).
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, the band reveal how in being "so adamant we were going to write a successful album", they unintentionally veered away from their original brief, as Paul explained,
"we focused in on the production too much...three to six months down the line we looked at all the tracks and thought 'hold on a second, there's f****n' nothing here we can stand with and say look this is us'. So we took a step back and did it all over"
Having pumped 6-7 hours a day working on the new material, it was a very brave move, but they wanted to release a current sound with a bit more oomph,
"I think the last record was quite emotional and sad, and I think this one has a bit more power to it"
'Monster' is the first track they have released from 'Colours', and they performed an acoustic version of it for the show.
They also chat to the lads about a recent Instagram story where they were hitchhiking to rehearsals, and tell us why Scots Clan sweets are the key to any project.
Walking On Cars play Whelan's in Dublin this evening and kick off their UK & Europe Colours Tour at the end of April:
