In Ireland, nearly 6000 children are in care with the majority of those being cared by over 4000 foster families across the country.

With training, assessment and other essential services slowing down due to Covid-19, Tusla are using National Fostering Awareness Week 2020 to encourage people around the country to consider fostering.

For Sharon Kelly, fostering was something she always wanted to do, and over the past number of years, she has welcomed five children into her home for everything from respite stays of a few days to more long-term care.

Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Sharon explained how you can get involved and what life is like as a foster parent.

If you would like to find out more about fostering can call freephone 1800 226 771 or email tusla.fostering@tusla.ie
