Think about the last time you saw a really dark sky where you could really see things like stars, planets or even the Milky Way-it’s probably been a very long time.

Dark Skies are becoming less frequent as things like light pollution increase, but in Mayo, there is a Dark Sky Park, and the sights are incredible.

Mayo Dark Sky Park is between Nephin Mountain Range and the Atlantic coastline and you can see over 4500 stars, The Milky Way and even meteor showers with the naked eye on a clear day.

Now, the campaign is firmly on to bring more counties on board and increase Ireland’s Dark Sky presence.

Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Georgia Macmillan from Mayo Dark Sky Park explained what’s involved in a Dark Sky Park, the benefits of a dark sky and what we can all do to make a difference.
