17-year-old Sara McFadden is a rally enthusiast from Castlebar, Co.Mayo.
Her parents, mum Sandra and dad Keith, have been involved in the motorsport ever since the year Sara was born. She went to her first rally when she was only six weeks young. Imagine.
Sara was born with albinism, a genetic condition which refers to a partial or total lack of the pigment melanin in the skin, hair or part of the eyes. Because of this, Sara can only see white haze and shadows in front of her when she is in sunlight.
The teenager also has a condition called Nystagmus, where the eyes make repetitive, uncontrolled movements, which results in reduced vision and depth perception.
With all this in mind, it's incredible to think that on Sunday last, Sara navigated her first ever rally alongside father (driver) Keith.
They took part in the Imokelly Rally down in Cork and it was a dream come true. A dream made possible by hard work and belief.
Dermot and Dave were delighted to welcome Sara and her mum Sandra into studio this morning to tell us all about her road to glory.
They chatted about the pre-rally nerves, how she has adapted the navigator role to create her own system, and what's next.
There's nothing like a parent's pride, and Sandra was bursting with it!
