It’s a technology that’s been used to reduce theft of catalytic convertors, but now, SmartWater has been used in the UK to help keep women safe.

The forensic liquid, which only shows up under ultraviolet light, stays on skin for up to six weeks and on clothes for much longer.

When spotted, it links the perpetrator to a specific batch of water that was sprayed and it is said, that its use has reduced the amount of catalytic convertor theft by half.

Now UK police have been trialing its use for helping women’s safety. Over 200 women were given their own package which included the water, a gel for door handles, and a trap that sprays the liquid if someone approaches the house.

While the anecdotal evidence has reported women feeling safer, it has also led to a prosecution.

Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Rachael Oakley from SmartWater explained the result of the UK trial, and the benefits to women all over the UK and beyond.
