You may have noticed that Today FM's Ed Smith has been off the air for a few weeks. He joined Mairead in studio today to speak about the reason for his absence and what has been going on.

Just over a month ago, our lovely Ed suffered a heart attack, and underwent a procedure to have two stents put in. As Ed put it,

"One of my arteries was as blocked as the M50 on a bank holiday weekend."

Heart attacks are something that runs in his family, so a part of him knew it was coming but was surprised at how soon it happened. Thankfully, Ed is feeling great now and wants to spread the important message that if you have any doubts at all, make that appointment and get yourself checked out. If it's caught early enough, these health issues can be treated and easily managed.

Ed is back on the airwaves this week - you can hear him from 7-10pm Monday to Thursday for Ed's National Anthems, and 7-10pm on Sunday for Ed's Songs of Praise.
