During lockdown, a lot of us dived into baking at home with bread in particular proving to be very popular. Marie McCarthy in Cork has been perfecting her brown bread recipe and this week was crowned Ireland’s brown bread baking champion!
This isn't Marie's first time entering the competition using her Nana's recipe, she placed 2nd last year but managed to claim the top spot for 2020 among more than 700 entries.
As the winner, Marie received a whopping €15,000 and her recipe will be produced by Stapleton’s Bakery and stocked by all 143 Aldi stores nationwide for a year, so keep an eye out when it hits the shelves in December.
