Today Mairead caught up with former Scottish Rugby International and semi-finalist on Celebrity X Factor, Thom Evans.

Thom's rugby story isn't a sports fairy tale - it was cut short 10 years ago at the Six Nations while he was playing for Scotland against Wales. Thom suffered a double fracture dislocation in his spine that ended his rugby career and very nearly ended his life.

He went on to make a full recovery, and while he is incredibly grateful, Thom found it tough to watch the Six Nations afterwards because all he ever wanted to be a rugby player.

After appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity X Factor, Thom is sticking with entertainment and will be going to the U.S to pursue acting which he said is "the only thing that filled that void of finishing from rugby".
