Finding the perfect formula for any equation isn't easy, but sometimes the planets align and the magic simply happens.
A prime example of this serendipity is the story of slapstick comedy kings Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, who were thrown together to create a very special act that would go down in history.
Fast forward to 2019, where actors Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly reprise these characters in a fantastic nature, as the highly-applauded biopic Stan & Ollie hits the big screen.
Speaking on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, both Coogan and Reilly are intrigued when Ian likens Laurel and Hardy to pop sensations One Direction. The immediately get the reference with Steve stating, "they were sorta like the boybands of the time". And they were.
The two men then explained how their being cast for Stan & Ollie was in ways similar to how Laurel and Hardy met with Coogan revealing how they had to "collaborate very closely" to make it work.
This movie gives us a rare insight into the private lives of two men who were in 'real-life' very different to their on-screen personas.
They led very different social lives and it wasn't until they were forced into a gruelling tour in 1953 that their 'bromance' blossomed, "the hardship of that tour is what pushed them together".
But don't ever mention the term bromance to John C. Reilly, he sees it simply as two men's love for each other, "whatever ill fates that befell them...they never left each other's side".
Both men also take us through how they approached the roles which included months of research and vast levels of attention to detail needed. Of course the physical resemblance had to be spot on, but they really needed "to find the core of the person" they were embodying.
Stan & Ollie is out in cinemas nationwide now.
