He's the man who needs no introduction.
Hotelier and presenter extraordinaire Francis Brennan released his 4th book over the weekend, A Gentleman Abroad, Francis Brennan's Travel Guide.
In his latest work, Francis recounts his journeys around the world and the adventures and mishaps that ensue along the way. From Vietnam to the Vatican, India to Australia, New Zealand to New York – he's seen it all.
But it's always back to Kenmare, because there’s no place like home. The book takes you on a grand tour of his best travel memories and inspires to see the world in a new light.
Speaking on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, not only did the vibrant globetrotter chat about the book, he also revealed some exclusive news - that he was indeed asked to run for president, "the Social Democrats did ask me, whenever they were all the rage, ages ago, would I be interested?" but he had to decline, "no, not interested in politics, very happy the way I am".
Iano asked him about "being like a 2-year-old taking off a plaster", "ohh well I hate that, God almighty!" and we discovered how he was told he would live until he's 120 by his GP. Another 60+ years of Francis? Yes please.
Brexit was another topic of discussion, but it's not something the the tour guide endorses, "the day the election was announced, I had a pain in my stomach". He knows his stats and the effects it will have on tourism here.
If you're looking for a special copy of the book, Francis will be doing signings at Dunnes Stores, Patrick St, Cork City, this Saturday @3pm.
