After years of huffing and puffing, the Government have finally decided to tax the dreaded sugar in the drinks on our shelves.

It's not a crazy hike in price, but it's enough to cause angst amongst the Liveline listeners.

Joe Duffy put out the call to get the public's opinion and experienced his own 'sugar rush' live on air.

A couple of his regulars reckon their lives are ruined, but Leo Varadkar is on hand to give them the vit-hit they need. Though it doesn't take long for him to find his fizz when a drinks company bigwig challenges him.

Worrying for the children of today, Danny Healy-Rae has a perfectly normal solution to the problem - well normal to him. And Paul Williams fears for the country as the 'carbonated criminals' are sure to wreak havoc.

The icing on the cake is 'Sugar Ray D'Arcy' who is like the cat that got the unsweetened cream...
