Here's a little known fact for you - 'LUAS' isn't an acronym, or a name plucked from the air, it actually means 'speed' in Irish *smug grin* So after four and a half years, and total carnage across the city, that name is glittered with irony.
The first commercial trip of the new cross-city route wouldn't have been complete with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Paschal Donohoe and Shane Ross on board (they are the finance and transport oracles afterall), and what an experience they had.
As they make the transition from the green line to the red, Leo recalls his first trip to the Northside, which is a lot more recent than you'd think.
It's completely new territory for Shane Ross, who cannot get to grips with the culture shock. We also find out how much of a 'Captain Literal' he is too, "it's a joke Shane, it's a joke - relax!".
You'd never think it, but Paschal is a Northsider, and the ride into his home turf starts to bring this out. He goes from 0 to "the hack'a ya Ross" in a few seconds.
To their delight, one of our favourite former ministers gets on, and the whole LUAS carriage breaks into song.
Nothing like a chant in some local cant to get the blood pumping...
