There's no doubt hurling is a religion in Kilkenny. It's an institution that sees babies being given miniature hurleys as a sign of good luck, and to instill the love of the ash for years to come.

Ballyhale Shamrocks (in Kilkenny) are one of Ireland's most successful hurling clubs, but their future is in jeopardy thanks to a new flood relief proposal by the Office of Public Works.

The OPW want to divert the Little Arrigle River through the grounds of the Ballyhale Shamrock GAA grounds at an estimated cost of €430,000.

The locals are outraged at the preposterous plan which would indeed effect "the heartbeat of the community".

But who is behind it all? How could someone create such a badly engineered solution, knowing full well it could potentially destroy a 46-year-old club and endanger Kilkenny's county hurling squad?

Ian made a very important call this morning, to help get to the bottom of this catastrophe...
