The phrase ‘only in Ireland’ is thrown around a lot these days, but it certainly rang true this week when listeners of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show shared some hilarious stories about their postmen and women.
It all started when Ian received this text:
Hi Ian, I recently moved down to the midlands from Dublin and it’s lovely in every way. My partner had already been living in the town and we found a place together. One of the first mornings we were in the house, I was sitting in the kitchen, not a stitch of make up on and let’s say, not ready to meet people! There was a knock on the door followed by the door opening. There was the local postman happy as Larry leaving my post on the hallway table, a quick hello and back on his route into next door!
When my partner got home I said it to him and he didn’t blink an eyelid – he said yeah it happens all the time. I said it to some people in work and again – not an eyelid moved! It’s been a few weeks now and I just got used to it. The things nobody tells you when you move into another neighbourhood or different part of the country!
Ian asked whether any other listeners had a similar experience and got an enormous response.
It turns out that postmen and women all over the country are letting themselves into houses, garages and even cars to deliver letters and parcels direct to their customers!
