On this morning's show, we were delighted to chat with Hollywood icon, and director/producer extraordinaire, Ridley Scott.
Now just in case you aren't quite sure who Ridley is, here's a couple of his movies to help rejog your memory: Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Martian, and Prometheus, to name a few. "Ahhhhh HIM..." I hear you say.
Yes, the Englishman has been involved in some very important pieces of work for the film industry, and he's back with another applauded feature called All The Money in the World, for which he has been nominated in the 'Best Director' category at the Golden Globes this Sunday. Not bad for 80!!
His latest work is a truth-based kidnapping drama with a difference, where 'the richest man in the world', J P Getty, refuses to pay the $17m ransom for his 16-year-old grandson after he is abducted in Italy in 1973.
Ian asked him about his vision for the project, and how that was all thrown by the bombshell of the Kevin Spacey incident. After the sexual harassment allegations made about the actor, all his scenes had to be re-shot, in NINE days! How did it go??
Ridley tells of the amazing team he had with him (Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Williams, Charlie Plummer etc.), and how throughout the challenge, Christopher Plummer saved the movie with "this twinkle, this charm" as Spacey's replacement.
The two men chatted about Mr.Scott's childhood, and how having an eye for detail, and a huge interest in art as a kid, has stood to him throughout his career - giving him a unique vision, "I think I was blessed with an eye".
They also discuss the movie's impressive soundtrack, and how they may have actually met years go during Ian's first celebrity interview back in 1979, with a lady very close to Ridley's heart.
