If you don't already know the name Dean Lewis, you will do in the very near future.
Dean's an Australian singer-songwriter from Sydney and is best known for his debut single 'Waves', which was certified triple platinum in Australia in 2017. It has over 122 million streams, 31 million video views and was the second biggest Australian single last year.
His latest single 'Be Alright' is the first taste of his forthcoming album and has tugged on heartstrings around the world. It's currently number one in Australia and was certified platinum within four weeks of release. That's massive!!
Time and time again, heartache proves to be a very popular topic to sing about and the 30-year-old has used his own experience to create this hit.
Chatting to The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, he told us how, "it's actually centred around this thing that happened to me when I saw a message on my ex-girlfriend's phone".
That was four years ago though, so he's moved swiftly on saying, "I'm over it" with a big grin on his face. But he cannot get over the reaction to his latest work. People have been reaching out as it has really hit a nerve.
He also chatted about Sydney being "one of the greatest places to live in the world" because of it's laid back nature (which he oozes), told us of his love for Oasis, "that's where I cut me teeth" and seeing as this is his first time in Ireland, he gave us his honest opinion.
Dean plays the Button Factory in Dublin on Wednesday, September 19th this year and we've just booked our tickets.
Our listener's were loving him:
"That chap is a cross between James Bay, Danny from the Coronas and the lad who sings the jcb song..brilliant..big career ahead.. jim"
"Great song..... very like The Streets 'Cry your eyes'"
"That song is brilliant. Reminds me of old ed sheeran! Very good!! Emma"
I get a little bit of Jame Blunt in there too. What do you think?
