He's an Englishman in Dublin and Ian fanboyed.
Sting is in town for the official opening of his original musical 'The Last Ship', which previewed in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre yesterday evening.
The show runs until Saturday, June 9th and has been described as "a love letter to his homeland". It's a personal tale set in the 80's and tells the story of the closure of a shipyard in Tyneside town and how the community deal with losing their livelihood.
All songs and lyrics were written by Sting and play a huge part in this fast-paced, gripping production.
This morning we were delighted to welcome the musician in to studio to tell us all about the inspiration for his debut musical, and how it has been received so far.
"I believe in the play, I believe in the characters."
He chatted to Iano about his days in The Police (a new-wave rock band - not the police force) and how he's happy to leave that where it was "I tend to live in the moment - not in the past".
They also explored Sting's latest collaboration, a reggae-lite album and tour, with the one and only Shaggy, and how he has a strong Irish connection.
