Under The Clock is a new documentary produced by Snackbox Films, the award-winning production company behind hit documentary Older Than Ireland.

Remember this masterpiece?:

It tells the intriguing tales of a whole generation of people from all over Ireland whose relationships began under one of Ireland’s most iconic landmarks - Clery’s clock.

The clock has been a constant on Dublin’s O’Connell Street since the 1920’s and served as an ideal rendezvous point in the hectic capital. This iconic landmark became so popular that people began to use the phrase; “I’ll meet you under the clock”.

Whether it be the romance of a first date, the joy of meeting loved ones, a nostalgic reunion of old friends or the curious excitement of a visiting tourist, “The clock” could only mean one place.

Speaking on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, director of the movie Colm Nicell told us why they wanted to portray "the traditional way people met" and examine how and why it has changed over time.

Under the Clock features a very colourful cast with stories that are heart-warming, poignant and provide a rare glimpse into the not-so-distant past.

Iano chats to Colm about the effects technology has had on the logistics of meeting up. In a world without smartphones and apps, Colm states "back then you had to rely on people and trust them". An alien concept in 2018.

The lads also talk about how Colm and his team chose the cast and explore some of the popular phrases used in the recent era - things like "wearing", "lurching" and the "Excuse Me dance", which is absolutely hilarious.

Colm always seeks to find the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary.

Here's a little taste of what to expect:

Under The Clock is out this Friday at these cinemas: Movies@Dundrum, Movies@Swords, Movies@Gorey, The IFI (Irish Film Institution) in Temple Bar, Dublin and the SGC in Dungarvan - with more locations to be added soon.

It's a magical window into a completely different world where religion ruled, technology was minimal and acceptance rare - so check it out. It's a real eye-opener.
