This morning the government announced the new €1.25 billion Land Development Agency, which aims to build 150,000 homes over the next 20 years.

They have said the agency will prove to be as significant as the decision to set up ESB or Aer Lingus.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy joined us on The Last Word to explain why he feels the new agency will help tackle the housing crisis.

"For decades in this country our approach and attitude to developing on land has been wrong, and that's why we've gone from crisis to crisis in the housing sector."

"We want to take state land and sites and re-purpose them for housing development for more homes."

"We are not creating a building company. It's an agency to develop public land in the public interest."
