Tony O'Brien has announced his departure from the role of HSE director general, following calls for him to step down in the wake of the cervical cancer scandal.
Paschal Donohoe, Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, spoke to us about measures the government has approved to assist the women affected by the controversy.
He also gave his thoughts on Tony O'Brien's departure, saying it was "the right decision."
"It will allow the government and the HSE to focus on the most important thing, which is the health, care and lives of women."
He said the government is determined to get to the bottom of what has happened.
"It's unacceptable. Women's lives have been lost and ruined."
"It is a breach of the most fundamental trust that we should have to the health of our citizens, and it is for that reason that an inquiry is needed."
