Aidan Comerford won the So You Think You're Funny? award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014, an award that has previously been won by the likes of Dylan Moran and Tommy Tiernan.
He has now written his memoirs, Corn Flakes For Dinner, which reflects on family life.
Winning the award couldn't have come at a better time for Aidan: "I had lost my job three years previously and we were in serious mortgage arrears."
"Part of the prize was going to Montreal, and I also got an offer to do a full show in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival."
Aidan's two daughters, Ailbhe and Sophie, are both on the autistic spectrum. He decided to write a show about them, incorporating some of the more humorous moments in their family life.
"There's comedy in our everyday lives and I wanted to get that out on stage. It was quite difficult to do, but I managed to write an hour-long show."
He describes the emotional difficulties of finding out his daughters were on the autistic spectrum: "Like most people, we had a sort of idea of ourselves as being good parents and that our children were going to have better lives than ourselves."
"You want a better life for your children and you see their possibilities, and then that life that you thought they would have is suddenly gone. You have to let yourself grieve for that, and then start to get the child that you have help."
The family have endured several other challenges. Aidan's wife Martha suffered from post-natal depression and also has a sleep disorder, while Aidan himself had an emotional breakdown brought on by the stresses in their lives.
He describes Corn Flakes For Dinner as "a funny book about a difficult situation."
