The American journalist and novelist Tom Wolfe has died aged 87.

He was well known for his pieces on American life, and his books have included Bonfire of the Vanities and The Right Stuff.

He was considered a pioneer of New Journalism in the 1960s due to his use of novelistic techniques in his non-fiction work.

Matt interviewed Tom Wolfe on The Last Word back in November 2016.

During their conversation, he gave his thoughts on the election of Donald Trump and revealed which of his books he would most like people unfamiliar with his work to read.
