A planned event to commemorate those who served in the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Dublin Metropolitan Police prior to Irish independence has been deferred.
The controversial commemoration was due to take place at Dublin Castle, but its postponement was announced today by Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan.
Prior to the announcement, we were joined on The Last Word by historian and journalist Ruth Dudley Edwards and musician and historical entertainer Paddy Cullivan to discuss whether or not it would be appropriate to commemorate the RIC.
