According to a European Commissioner, diesel cars are on the way out and could completely disappear soon due to the demand for cleaner vehicles.

Is this true?

Not according to our motoring correspondent Michael Sheridan, who says diesel is far from dead.

Michael says diesel cars are still the best ones you can buy if you're looking for high mileage, and that when it comes to commuting, nothing can compare with a diesel engine.

"It will still power a lot of the cars we need to use."
