Bill and Melinda Gates have announced they will divorce after 27 years of marriage.

In a joint statement, they said they would continue their charity work together with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but that "we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives".

The pair have an estimated net worth of $130 billion, making them one of the world's wealthiest couples. Bill Gates stepped down from Microsoft's board last year to focus on philanthropy.
