The B&B of the Year Award 2018 will be presented at Dublin's Ashling Hotel tomorrow by Daniel O'Donnell and his wife Majella.
The pair have had huge success with their RTE series Daniel and Majella's B&B Road Trip, which has averaged half a million viewers every week, and is due to return for a third series this year.
The B&B of the Year Awards are run by B&B Ireland, the only national body representing the B&B sector on the island of Ireland, and sponsored by Waterford Crystal, who have provided the engraved vase which will be presented to the winner.
Daniel and Majella explained why they think B&Bs are proving so popular in Ireland.
"There's still a lot of people who want an intimate family kind of atmosphere," said Majella. "I've noticed that the standard of B&Bs now is almost better than hotels, and people that come from abroad particularly like the idea of staying with Irish people and really getting the Irish hospitality and warmth."
Daniel added: "There's a certain amount of people who want the hotel experience. Then there's another market that the B&B offers, and that's the feeling of home."
As B&B veterans, they are clear about what they expect from a visit.
Majella looks for a good welcome and "a nice, comfortable, clean room." She says it's important to know that the staff are there if you need them, but also to be able to come and go as you please.
When asked whether they would ever consider running a B&B of their own, Majella's response was "never say never" with Daniel adding, "We have enough en suites anyway!"
As well as talking B&Bs, Daniel also had some words on the passing of Irish country music star Big Tom McBride yesterday: "Big Tom was without a doubt the undisputed king of country music and has meant so much to so many people through the generations."
"He was a very humble man, but when he came into a room there was a presence."
