England won their opening World Cup game against Tunisia by two goals to one, but the pundits' assessment of their country's performance was deemed by some to be a little over the top.

Do English pundits really believe their team can go on to win the tournament?

Kieran Cunningham, chief sports writer with the Irish Daily Star, says the over-reaction "set the tone for the coverage."

"The last World Cup was their worst ever, so they went in with a certain degree of pressure, but they were up against a really poor Tunisian team so the reaction was unbelievably over the top."

Former Ireland international Andy Reid says, "It's typical of the BBC punditry in particular."

"I thought they did quite well for 25 minutes, but I don't think they were brilliant, and in the second half they were really poor."

"I think it's an average enough side and they're not quite up to it."
