Taylor Swift and The National were two of the major music acts to play in Dublin over the weekend, and they follow recent concerts by other big names such as Ed Sheeran and The Rolling Stones.

But why did these gigs not sell out? Is it the price of tickets and accommodation in Dublin, or could it be that there are simply too many concerts happening in the capital at one time?

Graeme McQueen, head of public affairs at Dublin Chamber, says we need to get the balance right and try to ensure events are more spread out throughout the year.

"Having so many gigs in such a condensed period is obviously not going to work. There are very few acts that can sell out the really big venues in Dublin. We need to make sure that acts are big enough for the venues that they're booking."

Graeme also thinks the housing crisis has played a part, with a lack of available hotel rooms, and that people generally also have less disposable income.

"There's a big strain on people's finances at the moment so I suppose it's no surprise that we're starting to see some empty seats at concerts."
