How big a problem is the 'pay to play' model within the Irish music scene?
Singer/songwriter Gary O'Nuallain has started an online campaign to raise awareness of the situation, which he believes is exploiting unsigned bands and musicians.
The 'pay to play' model means that musicians will only be paid for a gig if they attract a certain number of punters.
Gary is advising artists to avoid such promoters "like the plague."
Vinny Casey, venue manager of Workmans, says he has seen this type of thing happen before.
"It's sad to see where it's heading. Putting on shows is not that complicated."
"If a promoter comes to you and wants to book you, the first thing in their email should be how much they are going to pay you."
