Pete Buttigieg is one of the Democratic candidates hoping to challenge Donald Trump for the White House in 2020, having officially launched his campaign.
Buttigieg has been mayor of South Bend, Indiana since 2012. At 37, he is the youngest of the 19 Democrats who have put themselves forward for their party's presidential nomination so far.
If he were to win, he would also be the first openly gay US President.
Buttigieg has promised a "totally different" style of politics from Donald Trump, and his words seem to be having an impact as he has surged in the polls in recent weeks.
