Donald Trump has claimed that an incident in which an elderly man was pushed over by police could be a "set up".

Two officers in Buffalo, New York were charged with assault after video footage showed them shoving 75-year-old Martin Gugino during a protest.

The police department originally claimed that Gugino, who had to be hospitalised after hitting his head on the ground, "tripped and fell".

In a tweet, Trump appeared to refer to a report by the right-wing One America News Network (OANN).
