We're told that the worst of Ireland's economic crisis is over and employment levels are up, so why is it still so difficult for many people to make ends meet?

Due to excessive rents, we are now faced with a generation of younger people who can't find somewhere to live or, if they can, are unable to afford a deposit.

Karl Deeter of Irish Mortgage Brokers says: "We're starting to see an inter-generational inequality where you've got a youth who are starting work later, because they have to stay in college to get any job."

"Then they go into the gig economy, and you've got these rising rents which suck away their capacity to save, and because of that they're forming households later, having pensions later and buying homes later, if at all."

Michelle Hennessy of thejournal.ie, who finished college at the beginning of the recession is all to familiar with such situations. She says, "It's not just my future - that's my present."

"It's something that myself and my friends are talking about constantly. We want to be able to expand in our lives and be proper grown-ups, and in this country that generally means owning your own house and starting families."

"For a lot of us, it's just not possible to see that future for ourselves."
