An Garda Síochána has begun investigating the possibility of using drones for the first time.
The use of drones would be very helpful in certain police work such as mapping crime scenes and securing evidence arising from fatal collisions on our roads.
There are already more than 14,000 privately-owned registered drones in Ireland, with about 250 new devices registered with the Irish Aviation Authority every month.
