Continuing with our series of presidential candidate interviews, we spoke to Gavin Duffy about why he is running and what he plans to do if elected.
Duffy gave his views on the potential deportation of nine-year-old Eric Zhi Ying Xue, saying we need to look at how to resolve such issues.
"I believe there is room to legislate. I've been talking about having a citizens assembly to ask ourselves about what type of society Ireland is becoming."
He says he would lobby on behalf of the undocumented Irish in the United States if he were president, but would also seek to help those in Eric's situation here in Ireland: "Hard laws like this don't reflect very well on us."
Duffy believes a review of the constitution is needed, as "some of the language is very anachronistic."
He says the election campaign has been like he expected, but that he didn't expect to be running against two other candidates from the same TV show as him.
If he doesn't win, he says, he "will not be psychologically scarred by it."
"I entered it because I feel passionately about what I believe in, and they are issues that I will still work on."
