The government has approved a €3 billion plan to extend the roll-out of broadband to parts of the country not currently serviced by the private sector.

The National Broadband Plan aims to provide high-speed broadband to 540,000 homes and businesses in rural Ireland over the next seven years.

Is it a welcome announcement? And will it make a difference?
