Did your credit card see a lot of activity over Christmas?

Charlie Weston, personal finance editor with the Irish Independent, gave his advice on curing your spending hangover and planning your finances better in 2019.

Some of Charlie's tips include:

• Have a rainy day fund
• Don't bury your head in the sand when it comes to credit card bills
• Consider setting up a direct debit
• Switch cards if you can
• Be realistic about how long it will take to clear your balance
• Track your spending
• List your debts in order, from the highest interest rate down
