Having a good work/life balance may sound simple, but some people find it difficult to switch off from work.
In the third part of our mental health series, psychotherapist Helen Vaughan gave us her tips on mastering the work/life balance in 2019.
As Helen explains, the drawback of constantly being in the work mindset is that you have no downtime. She suggests taking simple steps like getting changed out of your work clothes when you go home, which may help shift your focus.
The most important thing is to make a decision to create boundaries for yourself. These can include not checking work emails after a certain time, or going for a walk at lunchtime to unwind for half an hour.
You may also want to consider working from home if possible, particularly if you have a lengthy commute, but you should set aside a dedicated workspace that you can leave at the end of the day.
Finally, Helen says, it's important to recognise if perfectionism is becoming a hindrance for you, especially if it results in anxiety.
