A report by the Road Safety Authority shows that in a quarter of fatal collisions in Ireland, people weren't wearing a seatbelt.
The statistics show this applied to 28% of drivers and 25% of passengers.
The safety belt was introduced in European cars in the 1950s, and seatbelt laws have been in place in Ireland since 1977.
