Dr. Ruairi Hanley has previously spoken about the anti-vaccination movement on this programme, and it's a subject he returned to today as he warned of the potential increase in particular childhood diseases due to the drop in vaccination numbers.

Ruairi explained that people may start to die of preventable illnesses if this trend continues, and that we could see a return to diseases we thought had been eradicated.

He also said the internet is mostly to blame for people's negative attitudes towards vaccination: "I find it breathtaking that people are looking at the internet and taking their guidance from conspiracy theorists."

Ruairi feels that providing education on vaccines is falling on deaf ears, and that a potential solution could involve cutting social welfare payments by 50% in the case of those who haven't had their children vaccinated.
