But should the proposed 72-hour wait for an abortion be removed?
Ruth Coppinger, Solidarity TD for Dublin West, thinks it's "paternalistic" to have a cooling off period and that women should be trusted to make their own decisions.
"It's not necessary. Do you need a cooling off period if you have a discussion with your doctor about a vasectomy? You don't."
"There is likely to have been a huge period of time where the woman has thought about this herself. The danger of these waiting periods is that it could put people on the cusp of not being eligible to have an abortion."
Kate O'Connell says she sees no evidence from other countries with the 72-hour waiting time that it has any detrimental effect.
"There is an appetite in the medical community to provide these services, but we did tell the people there would be a 72-hour cooling off period so we have to honour that."
Elaine Loughlin, political correspondent with the Irish Examiner, says: "This was always going to be an issue after the referendum was passed."
"You have one side wanting the legislation to be watered down and the other side wanting it to be bolstered."
