Republic of Ireland and Stoke City midfielder James McClean has highlighted threats that have been sent to him on social media.

On his Instagram story, McClean shared a direct message which had been sent to him. The message read: "Don't make me set your house on fire and burn everyone inside it."

In a statement on his page, McClean questioned whether anti-Irish abuse was acceptable and added that since he had highlighted the issue, "the silence is deafening".
