Jeffrey Sachs is one of the world's best known economists.
In his new book, A New Foreign Policy: Beyond American Exceptionalism, he shares his opinions on current issues facing the United States and the wider world under Donald Trump's presidency.
The book argues that "we need a much clearer self understanding of the limits of American power, the abuses of American power, and the need to play nicely with the rest of the world — something Donald Trump obviously is not interested in — so that we stop being such a hazard to ourselves and to the rest of the world."
Sachs says Trump is "internationalist, but not cooperative."
"He's meddling in business all over the world, creating trade wars with China and using sanctions to try to bring down the Iran government."
"If you read the national security doctrine of the United States under Trump, it says we must be the most powerful country in the world, we must be unchallenged, we must be able to defeat our foes, and it says that China is out to undermine the world system and a system based on American values."
Sachs says it's easy to point the finger at countries such as China, but he holds America equally accountable for certain things.
"The United States spies on everybody. It's the only country with about 800 military bases around the world. It's the country that relentlessly overthrows other countries' governments, and it has a secret army."
"There is no other country that does what the United States does."
He feels Trump is "a psychopathic president who is stoking hatred in order to create a political base."
"It's very dangerous, because crazy people with guns listen to him and they go out and kill people, and that's now happening every few days in the United States."
