John McColgan is best known as the founder of Riverdance, but he has also spoken about his interest in Palestine.
His new TG4 documentary This is Palestine airs on Thursday at 10.30pm. It sees him travel to the West Bank and Gaza with Trócaire to look at what life is like for the Palestinian people.
John says, "Nothing prepares you for the level of human rights abuses, particularly in Gaza where a million people are living in an open air prison."
"The Israeli government are 100% supported by the US and the Trump regime. They do what they want to do. A lot of what they do is illegal, but it doesn't bother them, they just keep going."
Between March and May this year, 150 Palestinians were shot and killed while protesting. Recently the United States also cut more than $200 million in aid.
John doesn't see a straightforward solution to the problem.
"In a month's time the schools will close and children may not have food. On the plus side, a number of countries are upping their contribution in an attempt to make up for what Israel has done."
