One in six people in Ireland struggle with reading and writing, but it's never too late to change this.

The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) has launched 'Take the First Step', a national public information campaign encouraging those who have difficulties with literacy and numeracy to get the help they need to improve their skills.

Bestselling author Sinead Moriarty is one of the campaign's ambassadors, and she joined us to explain how she got involved.

We also spoke to Chris Carthy, who sought help from NALA ten years ago when she was in her mid-forties.

Chris left school at 13 unable to read or write. She spent many years hiding her illiteracy, but taking classes with NALA changed her life.
